Movie Review: Divergent
HALO AMIGOS ~
Before I start, let me say that this is in my point of view, and how I feel about the movie. I am open to other opinions but this is what I think about the movie.
Divergent is a thrilling action-adventure film set in a world where people are divided into distinct factions based on human virtues. Tris Prior (Shailene Woodley) is warned she is Divergent and will never fit into any of the factions. Many find divergents a threat and will do what it takes to make sure they don't exist. When she discovers a conspiracy by a faction leader to destroy all Divergents, Tris must learn to trust the mysterious Four (Theo James) and together find out what makes Divergents so dangerous. It is based on the best-selling book series by Veronica Roth.
Beatrice Prior (Shailene) is born into Abnegation. But at 16, they can choose their own fraction, at the choosing Ceremony. Right before that, they have to take an aptitude test that tells them what faction fits them best. Her results were inconclusive.
At the choosing ceremony, she opts to join Dauntless, the most courageous faction and also the most reckless.
Shailene has nice chemistry with the crazy good-looking co-star, Theo James. Sigh * Thanks to the book series, Divergent has a ready-made audience of fans just waiting to fill those cinema seats as over 10 million books have been sold.
I love Shailene Woodley ever since I watched "The Secret Life of the American teenager". She is awesome and a really good actress.
I did not read the book series. I watched this today with my little sister. She read the entire book series. I found myself asking lots of questions when the movie was screening. According to my dear sister, the movie was not up to expectations. This is because of the scenes that they cut, and she felt that it was too rushed. I do agree that some parts are a little too rushed, non-book readers may have to pay very much attention to what's going on or you'll miss out the important parts.
Of course, when a book becomes a movie; it is impossible to include every single detail. The movie itself was a little thrilling for me. The fight scenes were kind of exciting but could have been improved on. The jumping off from the trains to buildings etc.. were interesting. I have to say, the story line of this series is unique and very creative. I really love the story line.
As compared to Hunger Games, I believe that Divergent kicked its ass hard. When I was watching the Hunger Games, I got really disappointed. It was suppose to be filled with action but it wasn't. Don't get me wrong, I am not hating on the movie or Jennifer. I love Jennifer Lawrence. But let me say again, this is in my point of view, and how I feel about the movie.
To conclude my views on the movie as a non-book reader, I would say the movie was pretty decent. Could have added a little more action and fight scenes. But then again, I wouldn't mind watching it again. Good movie =)
I would rate this a 4/5.
ADIOS AMIGOS ~ Thanks for reading.
