Movie review: GODZILLA 2014
Hallo amigos!
I've been really busy and exhausted from school. And that's why I don't really post much. After school today, mommy wanted to treat me to an early birthday dinner at T.G.I.F. It's actually a nice restaurant at i12 katong. although pricey, it an assortment of drinks including alcoholic ones (margarita ..) and the steaks are not bad. I still would prefer aston's steak over T.G.I.F's.
Okay, let's not side track. After dinner, it was movie time. The movie pick for today was Godzilla. As a child, I remember watching the other versions of Godzilla on television. I didn't like it and was bored to death. Hence, I was really skeptical about the movie. (Wasn't too excited if you know what I mean)
To my surprise, this remake was fucking awesome! And my god, Godzilla looks like a freaking crocodile cum dinosaur and it's humongous. I definitely recommend that you have to sit at least in the middle row of the entire theatre. These are the best seats around man; smack down in the centre!! you'll get a good amount of action up close and the sound system will reach you for sure.
However, in this remake; Godzilla is somehow to hero or saviour? Haha this Godzilla is the good guy here.
Aaron Taylor-Johnson (ford) was kinda good looking in his own mysterious way. Skipping the talk about what the movie is about, you can just read up the synopsis if you want to know about the story line.
Anyway, with Multiple monsters, multiple locations and a whole lot of destruction following; Ford just so happens to be the guy in the right place at the wrong time over and over again as he serves as the "guy we follow" from one disaster zone to the next. Problem is our connection to him is merely narrative specific as we're never offered enough time to actually care about his character. Instead we grow more interested and attached to Godzilla whose appearances are brief glimpses as other monsters wreak havoc for the first part of the movie.
The other predators were also very intriguing. The female was way bigger as compared to male spider-bat-looking monster. On the plus side, the male had wings. Their main objective was to meet and reproduce; the mating call. The moment where these two meet was the most touching. They looked into each other eyes and do what animals do; rub their heads against each other as a form of showing affection. When her eggs were destroyed, I could sense her pain and sorrow.
Godzilla is the alpha predator here. He is there to bring balance and be the only alpha. In this movie, lots of fighting between the monsters.
Great execution I would say. The special effects, the military styled action and combat plus the monsters wrecking the town and beating each other asses. Wow!
Love it and i recommend you to catch as well. :)
