Toasties

Disclaimer: I am not a muslim ~ And this post is simply my personal thoughts. So, please be nice! :D I may compare toasties to subway from time to time. Just a heads up!

Hi everyone, I'm back! I know it's been awhile since my last journal entry. The thing is that I've been pretty busy with school. You know how Polytechnics are; tutorials, lectures, projects & lots of nagging. For my school (NYP), i have so many ICAS before I can enjoy my christmas break. Even then, I have about 4 projects to do over this break. In singapore, holidays/term breaks are suppose to be for you to study etc.. Come on Singapore, let us students enjoy our holidays.

Anyway, i apologise for going off topic. Since Subway is not halal in Singapore, many of my muslim friends aren't able to enjoy the joy of having subs. Although Toasties ain't the only option but it just happens to be one the alternatives of subway.

I first heard of toasties or I'll say got to know about it through Instagram. What got me intrigued was the packaging but sadly it was because my friend took hers "to go". If you are eating there, this is how the sub is served. I paid a total of 10.80 if I am not wrong. The sub costs 6.90 and the set meal plus the upsize was prob 3.90. I am just gauging according to my non-so-perfect memory.

The menu has a variety of subs you may choose from. It's pretty similar to Subway with premium subs etc. The one I got was the Italian Trio and the cheesy nachos set; an additional dollar for the upsize (larger drink and bigger portion of nachos). All of the subs looks so yum yum that I had difficulty in choosing what I wanted.

There are about four choices of bread for your selection; honey oat, parmesan oregano, crunchy and premium. The bread was really appealing to the eyes unlike the subs at subway. Similar to Subway, the choice of either 6 inch or a foot long sub. The assortment of vegetables are definitely identical to subway but with the additional choice of mushrooms (i'm not too sure if mushrooms are only for my italian trio or in general. You should check with the staff there). The sauces are pretty much what you can get at subway.

The concept of toasties is really good. It's great that I can enjoy a sub with my dear B1 in the photograph below! =)

Toasties is located in Tampines. Although I don't usually head to Tampines but this was definitely worth the journey. Of course coming from NYP was a long and not-so-sweet journey.

What really disappointed me was the service. Maybe the staff on duty today is a trainee? I am not too sure but she was pretty slow in preparing the subs and it kind of held everyone back. Some of the staff seems pretty distracted as well. The queue behind us got really long in no time. The counter isn't as long or big, so crowd management could be a problem in peak periods. On the other hand, service is variable and it depends on when, where it is provided for. So many measures can be taken to counter service variability (training blah blah). Hence, one small little error will not affect my judgement.

On a brighter note, the subs were delightful. I love the flavour and the freshness of this sandwich. The nachos acted as a perfect partner in complimenting the sandwich. I really enjoyed the food!

In terms of pricing, it's actually pretty similar to subway. So no complains from me ~ Of course, subway has their ongoing promotions ($5 meals etc). Maybe Toasties will have similar promotions in future. This is definitely a must try and I give Toasties a big thumbs up! =)
