Brace Face
Hi Everyone!
Yes I am a brace face. Yay, ain't that exciting? I got my upper braces done last month, 22th of january. I got mine done at ubi dental. They have student packages for the conventional braces and you can pay in instalments. The consultation is not included in the net price though.
Why braces? Crowding. In addition of crowding, some of my molars are crooked. For my upper teeth, you can only see the first six teeth as the molars are actually not in-line with the rest of the teeth. Hence, my solution is dem metal brackets and wires.
X-ray also shows I have two impacted wisdom teeth. Geez. How lucky I am! I'll be getting them removed probably in April.
Before getting braces, you will have to go through a consultation where the dentist will take pictures, impressions of your teeth and x-rays. The second follow-up would be the breakdown for treatment.
Honestly, Ubi Dental is not really too good in terms of customer service man. No complains on the actual treatment though. The first round of consultation, yes i was satisfied. But second time round, it wasn't as pleasant.
- The receptionist got my appointments mixed up. I have yet to put on braces and she called me over the phone and said "you'll be coming in to put on your lower braces right?" Wow, I was taken aback. I haven't even gotten anything done. Not even the cleaning and you're saying I already did my upper set of braces. Got to be kidding me...
- When I got my upper braces done, they did not ask me what kind of braces I was getting. They just assumed I was getting the conventional. Initially, I did have intentions of getting the damon braces (self-ligating) but I changed my mind later on. As Ubi dental does not offer coloured damon braces and price-wise, damon braces are much more costly.
- The chinese young punk receptionist was really rude. She completely ignored my mother when she asked questions and completely brushed me off as well. This young punk is the one handling my appointment making (she sets the appointment. She is not the one who calls me up and reminds me of them). Boy, I'm gonna have a tough time here.
I guess all these issues aren't really the dentist's fault. It really is the receptionist's fault. Hold up. You may be wondering how the hell do I know that? Let me further elaborate. My mother asked the dentist why weren't we given a choice on what braces I would like to get?
The dentist then replied, "oh. You haven't chose what kind of braces you want? Hold on, please step outside where my colleagues at the counter will help you." Honestly, I don't know what kind of system are they running but shouldn't the dentist be carrying out all these requests and procedures. You may be handling a lot of customers but shouldn't customer satisfaction be number #1 on your list?!
Maybe Ubi dental cares more about volume instead of quality huh. For now, i'm just going to try to overlook what happened and try to get the best out of it. Since I have about 2 more years of treatment time to go. That's about 24 visits to the dentist?!
Some pictures to illustrate how my teeth looks like with braces:
First Month with braces. My upper braces were done first. Why only the top? Because there was not enough time to put on the bottom ones. When I arrived at the dentist, I had to wait for the previous patient to finish till I could have mine done. That patient literally ate into my appointment time. And when it was my turn, they would not even extend my time to complete the lower set. Can you imagine how bad the customer service is? *breathe*
Second Month with braces. You can see how crowded and crooked my bottom teeth are. I've the complete set of braces done now. At ubi dental, you can only choose your braces colours after the first month was done. Therefore, I had purple on the top and just plain boring silver at the bottom.
Pain Tolerance (5/10)
When I got my upper braces done, I felt not much pain. Neither did I have ulcers. However, when the lower braces got done on the following month, I had ulcers and experienced a little more pain than normal. I strongly believe it's because my lower teeth are really crooked. Chewing and even eating bread, I could feel the pressure and pain. So far, pain tolerance is about 5/10. Nothing anyone can't endure.
Tightening for me, wasn't too bad. At that very moment, yes I felt immense pressure on my teeth. Nothing unbearable really. Let's see how tightening goes for the bottom set of teeth, bet that's gonna hurt like a bitch.
Inconvenience (8.5/10)
It is really inconvenient to have braces. The amount of food that gets stuck in your braces is insane. This is why I always bring a proxy brush or a toothbrush with me wherever I go. I have to rinse my mouth after each time I ate. About 95% of the time, food gets stuck. I'll be busy brushing my teeth in the washroom and enduring the stares I get from people. "Haven't you seen someone brush their teeth before?"

The end of Cheers
Hi,
I am too sure if I mentioned earlier how my
school’s attachments works. So I’ll just give a brief run-down of how it goes.
In my school, we have both internal and external internships. External
internship basically means interning at a firm outside of school.
The breakdown:
·
10 weeks (external)
·
14 weeks (internal)
" 7 weeks in
either MSC (Cheers, d’studio or
connect’on), Call Centre, BRC, EMRS (events), ELDC (e-learning) etc.
" 7 weeks in
Financial Training Centre (banking and fund mgmt. students)
The reason why cheers is in bold is because
that’s the stopover I got. Ever since I enrolled into the school, I really
really really did not wanted to get into cheers. I mean like seriously. Talk
about free labour.
I have to agree that it was a rough start. I
got nominated for the role of the finance. There are several roles actually
e.g. receiver, orderer etc. You may think that Cheers? Like cheers the
convenience store? Yeah, you got that right. My school’s cheers is fully
operated by students. This way we are empowered to make decisions and think out
of the box. Critical thinking and crisis management skills are further
developed here.
Honestly, the handover from the previous
batch of students to us was really bad. There were too many people in the store
and they did not teach us everything that is needed to be known. Especially my
mentor, she just taught me what was related to my own role and nothing related
to the daily operations of the store. I had so many questions in my head.
I was a complete train wreck. I asked so many
questions. But then after, once I’ve completely adapted to it. Interning in
cheers is not as hard as it seems. Yes, it may be busy but I don’t really have
to crack my brains unless there is a machine fault or financial fault. My main role
is simply churning out financial reports, tallying of receipts, technical
support and help, managing the cash floats and inventory etc.…
Not long after, it was really a breeze. I was
just waiting for time to pass as I complete my main tasks really quickly. It
was getting better and better day by day. I found myself really having fun and
bonding with my team.
Throughout cheers, there has been its ups and
down. Drama and gossips but nothing changes the fact that it was a good run. I
made some good friends and I definitely do not regret my time in cheers.
Right now, I am finishing my last week at the financial trading centre (FTC) along with applying for university. Fingers Crossed guys*
