Macritchie Tree Top

Hi ya’ll,

Yesterday, a couple of friends and I hiked up Macritchie with the aim of making it to the treetop walk.

We took bus 166 from Ang Mo Kio Interchange and alighted about 6-7 stops later @ flame tree pk.  Our starting point was to start at Venus Drive Carpark. To know which way to go once you alighted, just look around and you’ll see that there is one particular area on your right that is full of trees. That is the way to go.

Straight ahead, you’ll go to Thomson plaza. To the left, you’ll go to more houses/condos.

So we followed the hike trail. There are many routes to the treetop and we took the shortest route to the top. If you follow the trail, there are signs along the way leading you to the treetop. So fret not, you are in good hands. The rest depends on your ability and stamina.

Us, being beginners. Wow, it was tough. There were so many ups and downs. Steep or not, they tired us out. Especially the stairs after we crossed the treetop bridge. There was quite a fair bit of stairs to climb up and down.

When we were on the treetop bridge, we met two curious monkeys. They were scaring everyone that were on the bridge. Nobody has encountered monkeys that close. I did not know I wasn’t supposed to give the monkey eye contact and I did. That’s when it sort of chased me. I don’t think they had the intention of attacking anyone, just maybe to get some food from us. Because those goo goo eyes the monkey gave me when he faced me, that wasn’t aggression.

That was definitely the highlight of the trip.

We enjoyed the rest of our day with prata and some ice cream at Upper Thomson. What a productive day!

XOXO

Coney Island 2016

Hi ya’ll,

Yesterday, my friends and i visited Coney Island. Gee, it was hell of a tiring. I swear to god. Our bums hurt so much after that much cycling. Not forgetting, how humid the weather was.

We also visited the punggol ranch. Sadly, the horses are only out at 2pm. But we managed to make friends with the pony. If you want to feed the pony, it's $2 for a packet of carrots.

Tips:
  • Do not get the city bike. Rent the mountain bike instead. This is because, the terrains in Coney Island is not an actual path. There are stones, rocks and all on the path. So, you should get a bike that is built for that kind of terrain. If you want to get a basket, it will cost you an additional dollar at “go cycling”.
  • Bring at least 1.5 litres of water. I’m not kidding. My 750ml bottle was not enough and I was dying halfway in. There are no water coolers in Coney Island. You can find the convenient store at “Punggol settlement”

Coney Island is an island off of punggol. The place itself is pretty much repetitive especially when all you see are trees, trees and more trees. Of course, there are the occasional lalangs and other kind of plants/trees. Unfortunately, we did not spot the cow. And I guess even if we did, we were too tired.

Since the island is more eco-friendly than anything, the toilet (2.4km away from the west entrance) near the lorong halus exit has no water cooler nor electricity. That is probably why the island closes around 6-7pm. Do not drink the tap water. The water is basically rainwater. It's not clean.

We actually followed this route we found off the net. We took Route B and took the short-cut. Gosh. The pathway was so rocky that it was hard to power through. I suggest you guys take Route A and head back from where you came from.

We managed to find the mansion but it's all fenced up now. And it took us quite awhile to get there walking and these man-made planks. We had to dunk under a few tree trunks as well. Please be careful when you're walking through this area. You could miss a step and fall. Although there were many warnings to only visit this area on guided tours, but we're daredevils and we assumed all responsibility.

On our way back, check out these beautiful scenic photographs we took. No doubt, Punggol is really a beautiful area.

Getting there:
We took bus 84 from punggol interchange. And alighted 6 stops after @ punggol road end.

SMU Interview 2016/2017

Hi ya'll,

Today I went for an interview at SMU. My interview was one to two interviewers. It's sort of a one-one if you think about it. My interviews were really friendly and really made me feel comfortable.

My interview was at 3.15pm. But I only went in about 3.45pm. I'm guessing the previous candidates  overshot their sessions.

There was no article. It felt like a get to know each other kind of session. All the questions were pretty personalised. I'll list them down below.

  1. I see that you interned at XXX (Banking Secrecy. Shall not be named). So what did you do there?
  2. What was the most memorable/favourite thing you did at XXX?
  3. What changed? Why did you suddenly start to work hard? (given my background that I was from ITE)
  4. Was Poly difficult for you?
  5. What are your weaknesses?
  6. How is your presentation skills?
  7. Why accountancy all of the sudden? (My diploma is from banking)
  8. What other universities have you applied for?
  9. Why not NUS?
  10. Any questions you have for us?
We started the interview with some small talk. Like how do they pronounce my name what not. It ended with small talk too. I shan't go through their replies one by one because that would take forever.

They mentioned that I would have the results in about a week or two. And if I did not have the results and NTU has already offered me, I could call the admissions office and they could administer it "faster". Does that mean my interview was good? Who knows? We'll see.

They even asked what were my plans after the interview. Really friendly.

SIT Interview 2016/2017

Hi y'all,

I think it was a month or couple of weeks ago that I went for an interview at sit. Unknowingly, I actually been to the place before. They overtook the ITE HQ over at Dover.

You can get there by taking the train to one-north station and walking over. There are a few buses but the bus stop is out at the main road. The place is pretty deep in. You have to walk quite a bit. Go to the main entrance, and the security guard will direct you to the interview room.

I was interviewing for accountancy. Those of you who are not sure what is your official transcript, it's the one you get from your school and not from the portal. You may have to order it from your student office if you haven't gotten your final semesters results.

The interview structure (15 Minutes Plus/Minus):
• case study (riddle). 3 mins find a solution. 1 min to articulate your answer
• discuss among yourselves one case study and present to them as a group
• questions to the floor. "Why accountancy at SIT?" "What other universities have you applied for?" "How do you climb up the ladder as an accountant?"

My riddle
Three ladies went to a restaurant. The total cost for the meal was $30. They split the cost ten dollars each. The bill was actually $25. The waiter received an unequal amount of change. As he didn't know how to return it to the ladies equally. He pocketed the $2 and returned the ladies $1 each. Now, each person has paid $9. 3 x 9 = $27. The waiter pocketed $2. $27+$2=$29. Where is the missing dollar? (i paraphrased the riddle to the best of my memory)

This was my riddle. I had a hard time figuring it out initially. Because what was in my head was, there was no missing dollar. How can there be a missing dollar? But since the question asked for it, I assumed there must be a missing dollar. Sometimes, it would be good if you don't think logically huh. So instead of telling them what I first thought, I said the missing dollar was with the waiter.

When the interview ended, I googled for the answer and realised..... I actually got the right answer earlier on. Thing to note, never doubt yourself.

The other candidates with me. One got the riddle about the 3 light bulbs and the other got a riddle about a lawyer and accountant. All pretty popular riddles.

The interviewer wasn't too friendly. And everything you said, he has something to counter it. So be prepare for sort of a debate. The other candidates were interviewing for the third and second time. I was really shocked.

Since I screwed up the riddle, I didn't expect to be offered a spot. But I was. SIT is definitely my back up plan in the event, I do not get into NTU or SMU.

Just got my braces tightened and adjusted

Hi everyone,

Anyone who wears braces or knows about it should know that every month, you would have to head down to your orthodontist to get adjustments or tightening. So I got mine done today.

I'm not sure if you can see it but the arch wire on my upper set of teeth are actually thicker as compared to my lower teeth. Yes, I got some adjustments done today on top of the monthly tightening. My orthodontist did mentioned that I would feel more pressure. I did feel the pressure when the procedure was going on but not so much after that. Right now, I do not feel any pain or pressure on my teeth. That's really weird huh. To each its own I suppose.

My colour combinations are baby blue and baby pink. I am seriously loving this combination. I finally got the mental wires replaced with rubber bands on my lower set of teeth.

My orthodontist is strict in a sense that there are no colours in the first month. Colours are only added on the second month.

Time check
Upper set of teeth: The beginning of the 3rd Month
Lower set of teeth: The beginning of the 2nd Month

If anyone one of you are thinking of getting braces, don't be too worried about the pain. Each person's pain tolerance does differ and your teeth may be different than everyone else. So it's really a case by case basis. Fret not, be brave and do what you got do people.

Xoxo,

My bracket fell off

Just the other day, my bracket fell off. One morning, I was having breakfast (cereal) when I heard a loud crunch. First thing that came to my mind was, “did one of my teeth break or something?” I was literally freaking out in my head.

I finally had the courage to look in the mirror and realise that the bracket actually fell off. Immediately I called up the dentist and asked for advice.

They told me to come in and that any dentist on duty can fix it back. Thank the heavens, the clinic wasn't as crowded as it normally is. If not, I wouldn't know when can I get it fixed.
