Gold Coast, Day 1
Hi y'all,
I'm currently at my apartment. This time round, we decided
to try Airbnb. Our place is actually located at pacific plaza. Great
accessibility and very close to Surfers Paradise.
We started off our journey by boarding the plane at 10pm (SG
Time). We took Scoot and the flight number is TZ 6. Honestly, I was quite
sceptical about taking budget airlines especially since it will take at
least 7h 30mins to arrive at the Gold Coast Airport.
We arrived at Gold Coast approximately at 7.45am. Clearing
customs, getting our luggage and freshening up at the washroom. It was half
past 8. Australia is quite strict when we bring in food from other countries.
So, do declare if you brought any food in. My friend mentioned that there might
be dogs around to sniff your bags. But that was not the case for us.
8.
First thing we did when we cleared customs, get our GC go
explore card. You can take unlimited number of buses and tram journeys at a
cost of AUD $10 a day. This is definitely good for tourists especially since we
will be travelling from zones to zones. Transport costs can easily cost you
about $10-15 in one trip.
You can get maps and brochures at this place as well.
Attractions information and you can ask the lady anything. The nice lady told
us where to take the surfside buses. It was just outside of the airport. You
won't miss it.
After
we got our travel passes, it's time to get our sim card. The rates are shown
above and there are even 2gb plans. 2gb is definitely more than enough. So we
got the 3gb data plan and paid $22. We initially thought of getting the wifi
router from the airport but since there's a cap on the data of 400mb. We didn't
find that worthwhile at all.
As we are only allowed to check in at 2pm. We headed to
Pacific fair to get some shopping done and visit Target. We took the surfside
buses to the last station (bus 777 or 700). The key to this is to look at the
colour lines on the map. You can tell where it ends and begins.
One thing, I have to share is. The boost juice here is
fantastic. Rich in flavour and it tastes so good. Well, boost did originate
from Australia. It is costly. An original cup costs about 7 bucks. But it is so
worth the price that I can overlook the fact of how costly it is.
When it's about time, we took the G:link (tram) to surfers
paradise north station and headed towards Pacific Plaza apartments.
We're
staying on the 14th floor. The apartment has a very nice view. Furnishing is
super homely. And the wind, amazing. Apparently, Mira had some problems with
her sim card. There wasn't any internet access. She called countless of times
but her phone keeps cutting the call off. I decided to use my phone to get
access for her. This is when, we lost time but thankfully, no regrets.
This is the tram rides. There's several terminals where you have to tap your
card when you board and alight. The technology is pretty cool but there isn't
conductors around to check if you have paid for the ride. I do see many
citizens not tapping and getting a free ride. There is a fine to pay if you are
caught not tapping. So, doooooo tap that. If you know what I mean!
After settling down, we decided to explode surfers
paradise.
A
really interesting shop where all the merchandise are pretty much objectified.
Condoms, dicks, boobies.. Key chains, toys and souvenirs of such. Haha pretty
cool.
We
visited the Skypoint Observatory. And got to see the city lights as well.
The best time to visit would be about 5pm. Because it gets dark at 6. So
you can see how the city looks like in the day and when it's dark.
Last stop for the day was grocery shopping. We went to
Woolsworth to get everything we needed. Drinks, bread, cheese, peanut butter,
chocolate, hummus, crackers etc.
The place is pretty accessible. You just got to keep
a lookout for places. We thought most shops will close around 5.
But in actual fact, it's still quite lively. So, no worries on that part
friends.
That's all for now,
CAZP ♥
